It is delusional to think of yourself as anti-establishment, progressive or radical as long as you are not vegan.
By partaking in the use of nonhuman animals for human purposes, you actively support the systematic oppression and commodification of the most vulnerable, defenceless beings; you disregard the bodily autonomy of others; you contribute to systemic slavery.
It’s nonsensical and hypocritical to publicly fight for the rights of certain oppressed groups while engaging in the most large-scale system of exploitation that ever existed. All forms of discrimination have the same root : the propensity to consider “otherness” as inferior and of less value.
Nonhuman animals aren’t resources or commodities for humans, the same way humans aren’t resources or commodities for humans.
You’ve been a vegetarian for decades, which probably makes you feel like you’re doing your share for the animals, but vegetarianism doesn’t have any ethical coherence whatsoever. There is no moral distinction between flesh and other animal products : both involve the exploitation and killing of sentient beings for palate pleasure.
And palate pleasure will never justify the injustice and immorality of the system in place. Please go vegan.
